Selfie Sunday: Tabby

This is a motto I have been living by since
I have gone to college.

College has brought so many different challenges. I have had to find my own voice in so many situations, and establish my life on my own. Well actually I can't say it is truly life on my own, I currently have no income and am living in a dorm but it is more on my own than I have been. I enjoy waking up and being able to set my own schedule but I do miss running my little sisters to the occasional dance class or soccer practice/game. I do sometimes miss that family time around the table or even just watching a movie together, but I keep telling myself that I will be able to spend as much as I want with them after I get that next diploma.

Although I don't get to spend a lot of time with my family, college has been a unique experience. I have had so many great memories since I came to university. I have made a handful of close friends (from many places) and we have had a blast. Funny thing is that I am only in my second semester of college. I can't wait for what else college has in store for me.

College: Experience

Looking back on our first semester the one word we agree on is unbelievable. We did so many things, we made so many new friends, and not to mention we both made the Dean's List. After move in, the first few weeks were a bit hectic. We had to get to know each other and learn how to live with someone else in the same room and share showers with the entire floor. Get to know the entire campus, including off campus building, and were all our classes were. Then get to know the classes and try to make friends in each class in case you missed a day or if there was going to be a group project (yes those still exist in college). And last but not least learn to live with out mom and dad. I (Tabby) admit to having a little melt down because I missed my little sisters but Maggie helped me through it.
The one thing everyone stresses is the courses and ours varied along with our professors, there were a few strict ones but there was also more relaxed. Yes, finals week was stressful and dealing with stress is a whole other topic. A bit of advice, don't overload all your time studying even it out go to events and make friends. The first semester we went to multiple Volleyball games and we hardly missed TNL (which is our University's take on Saturday Night Live). We also went to our University's lake and went for a hike around it, even though we under estimated the trail it was so much fun and we got some really good pictures.

Our lovely lake.

If you are going on this University adventure soon here is a mini bucket list (some of which we have done) that you can do before you graduate.

  • walk around the town
  • go to at least one game for each sport
  • see at least two speeches
  • self guided tour
  • academic plan
  • attend student life/government activities
  • hike (if offered)
  • find a program or club you like and go to them regularly
  • find a study area
  • go to a movie or mall in the town
  • find a study buddy
  • get a mentor
  • tour your library (it will become handy)
  • find a hobby

College: Move-In

So this week we decided to focus on college, and today we have decided to discuss the move-in process.

When you start the move-in process you have to buy lots of new things for your dorm room (ie. bedding, appliances, food, etc.). However, don't buy a lot of food because you won't know how much you will eat out or in the dorm, we ended up wasting a lot of food our first semester. After buying all of these things you must pack it all up and make it fit in one car, due to the fact that most campuses will only allow one car during move-in days. After playing the ultimate game of tetris with all of your belongings you must then drive to your school and check-in. After you've waited in line to get to the building you must unpack everything as quickly as possible(luckily for us there were people from different campus organizations that helped us load everything into our dorm). After you get your keys you must unpack and sort through all of your things. You may think that that it ends but you will rearrange everything at least 3 times during the first months until you figure everything out. Although it may seem very stressful the whole process is very structured and goes quite smoothly. The best advice we can give is to stay calm and have fun!

DIY: Heart Decoration

Heart Garland

Looking around our dorm and we both had the same thought, we need more decor. With that in mind we resorted to the glory of Pinterest, and found this great idea (added bonus Valentine's Day is coming up).

All you need is construction paper (in your choice colors, we choose pink and purple keeping Valentine's Day in mind), about  6 feet of twine (preferably black), scissors and glue.

The easiest way we found was to create various sized hearts to use as templates and trace them on the construction paper. We made three different sizes of hearts.

After you cut out all the hearts, match them in pairs by size and color. Next cut the twine in various lengths, our lengths ranged from half of a foot to a foot. Take one piece of twine, place one heart behind it and then apply the glue to the heart. Lastly place the matching heart on top, and hold together for a few seconds.

Repeat with the different colors and sizes. Once all the twine is complete, use clear tap to attach them to the top of your window (or where ever you plan to hang them).
Hope this little craft spruces up your rooms as much as it has our.

DIY: Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri

So this week on LFT we decided to get a little crafty. Kicking off DIY week with our attempt on a Virgin Daiquiri, which was a success.

All you need is 12 oz. of either Mt. Dew or Sprite (we chose to use Mt. Dew), 10 small frozen strawberries (or berry of choice), 1 cup of ice cubes and your trusty blender.

Start by pouring the 12 oz. of your pop into the blender, we luckily had a blender with a measuring cup built into it.

Then add the 1 cup of ice cubes and strawberries.

Then blend to a slushy constancy.

Last but not least enjoy the simple treat.

High School: Self Image

So this week is high school week and we decided that a huge part of being in high school is self-image. Having been through it all we understand this topic more than the average teenager, and our biggest piece of advice is to be yourself. Yes, this is cliché but it’s true, be confident in your own skin. Being confident and embracing your differences can help raise your self-esteem and that will also help others to respect you more. We’re not saying that life will be easy, but we are saying that confidence can make it easier. It’s easy to find flaws in yourself but we challenge you to find at least 5 things that you love about yourself, write them down and carry them around with you. This could be the start to a happier, more confident you. Finding the amazing things about yourself may be hard, but remember not to compare yourself to someone else because you are unique. One of our favorite things about ourselves is that we both extremely self-driven individuals, leave us a comment below saying what one of your favorite things about yourself is. Yes, at some point throughout high school and even college you will feel down about yourself and you will hate your emotions, but unfortunately that is life and you will have to battle through. Remember you are never alone chances are others feel that same way (we know we do), reach out and talk about the way you feel. Confidence is everything, life will be that much more.

High School Advice

High school comes with it's challenges for everyone. Freshman year you come in as the "fresh meat" to this big school. Sophomore year you are in an awkward phase, and still trying to get you footing. Junior year you think you know everything but there are those seniors that put you in your place. Then senior year, what you have been anxiously waiting for the entire time, goes by far too fast. The best way to change this cliche is to become a part of something. Both of us were in multiple choirs and involved in the theater department. Individually, Maggie was apart of color guard and Tabby was in the National Honor Society. We know many people say get involved (and yes joining a club does help) but the key factor is being friends with the right people. If you hang around the wrong crowd it is just a ticking time bomb before you get in some form of trouble and after that people look at you a different way. If you are friends with the right people, your high school experience will be filled with countless memories and you will walk across the stage with not only a clean record but knowing that you will have lifelong friends. Well we feel that is a big enough rant for today.

Selfie Sunday: Maggie

Hey guys, so for my Selfie Sunday this week I thought I would tell you all a little more about myself. As I said before I'm the youngest of 4 and the only girl, so you could say I was a little spoiled being the only granddaughter and all. My parents raised me in a Christian home and church was not really an option growing up. I was very involved with youth group through out school and enjoyed every bit of it. I also become involved in the arts as I was a dancer for 5 years, marched color guard for 5 years, and sang in choir for 9 years. School has always been a priority for me growing up. I had few close friends growing up but the friends I had were some of the best people I had ever met. I also was very close with my brothers because the helped raise me. So although Tabby and I grew up different we ended up having the same motto: Home is wherever family is.

Bucket List: Travel

We decided to separate our travel bucket list completely because we have a lot of plans. I guess to keep the list organized, the best thing is to start with the smallest adventures. We want to test the waters of traveling together with a small trip to Tennessee. Then the next would be to Orlando, FL and to attend PlaylistLive (which is one of our dreams since we both have a slight YouTube obsession). After that we would like to take on the adventure of going to New York, and possibly see a Broadway musical. And no United States traveling would be complete with out going to California and walking the Hollywood Stars. Then finally going abroad to LONDON, ENGLAND. Maybe even continuing the abroad trips to Ireland and seeing all the landmarks. I guess we have some ambitious plans but we hope and dream that all these will become true over time.
Where is your dream vacation?

Bucket List: College

Hey guys! So this week is bucket list week and we thought we'd kick it off with college. Some things that we both want to achieve are: graduating with a job lined up, Dean's list every semester, study abroad, have our own apartment by junior year. We'd also like to obtain field hours for our majors before senior year and find suitable men for the two of us, Niall Horan *wink, wink. To go along with having a job lined up we would both like to have an internship the summer before our senior year. We would also like to attend at least one sporting event for every sport each year. We also will go on a mission trip whether it is affiliated with our university or not. We also will be organized all though out our college career and to finish all of our reading and assignments early so that we don't have to spend our college life stressed.

Tabby's Selfie Sunday

Continuing with Introduction Week, Maggie and I decided to focus on Hometowns & Family for this Selfie Sunday.

Growing up I moved a lot, not within the same city either. I have live in three different cities; however, we repeatedly live in one. I moved about four times, that I remember. Oh and let me tell you every time we moved it seemed like we had more stuff than the time before. Because I moved so much I feared getting too close to people because I felt that I would eventually lose them anyway. (I still struggle with this "brick wall" every now and then). We moved just about every two or three years. However, I did convenience my parents to stay in the same place for my entire middle school and high school career. Those years I gained to best friends, and I still will consider them my best friends even though I now go to college in a different town.
Even though I didn't get very close to kids my age growing up; I was and still am extremely close to everyone in my family. No matter how hard you try they can never go anywhere :)  I love everyone in my family, and would do anything for them. I know that I am an extremely lucky girl to have been blessed with the family that I have. We have had struggles and obstacles but we always banned together to overcome them.
All in all my hometown is where ever my family is.

First Friday Favorites

The first full week in every month, we plan to share our current favorites with you all (Friday Favorites). Our favorites are going to consist of multiple categories that have been our recent addictions… If we can’t agree we will simply post two items under the category.

Make Up: Covergirl. Outlast Stay Fabulous. 3 in 1 Foundation. In the shade 810 (Classic Ivory).

This foundation has fair coverage with primer and concealer built in. Added bonus the shade is good for both of us.

“Although if I do have a major break out then I do have to have a bit extra concealer.”- Tabby

Movie: Disney’s Frozen.

It is the perfect sisterly princess story, plus the characters are just like us. One blonde, one red and they become extremely close in the end.

“It is sooo good, that I have seen it 4 times since it has been released.”- Maggie

Candle: Bath and Body Works Dolce Candle (Tabby).

It is sweet and smells like cookies J I am a sucker for sweet scents.

Music: Hoodie Allen. All American Album.

It can’t really be explained. Pop. Rap. Also very catchy J

“It is amazing and has been on repeat since I got it.”-Tabby

Show: Glee.

We were introduced to this addiction by our friend Zack. And now we are hooked. We are currently on season 3 so please, no spoilers, but we make each other wait so that we are constantly on the same page. Plus it’s fun to watch together to see how we react.

So these are our recent favorites, what are some of yours???

We have the posting problem fixed. Now posts will appear both on the blog website and Bloglovin.

First Impressions

The first time we saw each other was our freshman year in high school, we sat near each other in choir both being sopranos (the really high singers). However, we didn’t get to know each other until we found out we would be going to the same college. Also as time went on we become progressively involved in the musical theatre department at our school as “techies” (in other words we ran the lights, sound board… without us you wouldn’t have been able to see or hear the show); so we were able to get to know each other then. After we decided to be roommates our senior year, we started to get to know each other a little bit better, but didn’t truly get to know each other until we moved in. You really get to learn some interesting things about a person at 2am when neither one of you can sleep. Needless to say that after 4 months of sharing a very small room we have become inseparable.

More specifically…

“My first impression was that Tabby was a quiet and very respectable person”-Maggie

“I honestly can’t remember the specific time I met Maggie but I do remember that is was quite (boy was I wrong). Throughout high school I noticed other traits (for lack of better word) about Maggie like she was a church going girl, seemed to like school, was a good singer, and an amazing “techie.” Little by little, I have gotten to know her even more.”-Tabby

Nice to meet ya...

Hello,
This is Tabby and Maggie, we are current college students trying to create something to call our own. We both spend quite a lot of time on YouTube, Pinterest, and many other social media sites, to the point were we decided to combine all of our passions onto one site and share our experience with you. Before we get too deep you should get to know us a bit.

Hi, my name is Maggie Burns and I am a freshman in college. I'm currently majoring in nursing with a minor in Spanish. Although most people would consider this to be crazy, I think I'm up for the challenge. I have 3 older brothers so my life growing up was quite interesting to say the least. Enough about me, let's hear from Tabby.....

Well, my name is Tabby LeMaster and also a freshman in college. I began as a Criminology major but just recently changed to Social Work major with a minor in Chemical Dependency Counseling. I know this is going to be very time consuming and emotional but I am bracing myself now. Focusing on the general stuff about me... I am the oldest of three sisters. I love my little sisters to death even though they test my nerves A LOT.

I bet now you are wondering how we met. Both of us were in choir and theater in high school, so we ran in the same "groups" but never really knew each other till we found out we were going to the same college. Next thing we did was become roommates and now we are scarily close and are sooo similar. Anyway, we will elaborate on these stories later this week(which is Introduction Week), but for now we will go and we will ttyl.
